Tough on Crime D.A.
Leslie Hansen is tough on crime. She aggressively prosecutes repeat and violent offenders because that is how you impact the crime rate and that is the primary responsibility of the District Attorney. While Leslie was the Assistant District Attorney -second in command-in the District Attorney's Office, violent crime went down, including murder, rape and armed robbery.
A small percentage of repeat offenders commit the majority of the crime. They make a living out of victimizing innocent citizens. It is the District Attorney who decides whether to charge an offender as a habitual criminal. If these career criminals are in prison, the crime rate goes down.
Leslie Hansen's opponent agrees with criminal defense attorneys and with the Democrat nominee. He believes the District Attorney's Office is too hard on habitual criminals. He thinks that the laws used to put these repeat criminals in prison for longer sentences are "over used" and he worries about the cost of "over incarceration" of criminals. He wants to change the way we prosecute repeat offenders. So does the Democrat.
Leslie Hansen thinks that the cost to keep repeat and violent felony offenders from victimizing us again, is money well spent.
Crime is down because prisons are full.
Trusted Conservative
Leslie Hansen is the only candidate with a record of fiscal responsibility. Every year while Leslie was second in command, the District Attorney’s Office returned money to the taxpayers. In 2011, the District Attorney's Office returned $880,000 to the taxpayers and the year before that, the office returned $1.3 million to the taxpayers in the 18th Judicial District.
Leslie Hansen thinks that unions should not influence the GOP primary or have an impact on justice.
Leslie Hansen's opponent is supported by the unions-they have given him their endorsement and they have given him money. Police unions are like every other union, they support particular candidates for a reason.
The District Attorney has an ethical obligation to ensure that the criminal process is fair. Remember the Masters case in Fort Collins?
Bold Leadership, Fresh Perspective
Leslie Hansen is the only candidate with the right experience. She knows this Judicial District. She has 15 years of prosecution experience and 12 years of private practice experience. Leslie has prosecuted hundreds of cases and has conducted dozens of jury trials. She has conducted 12 first degree murder trials and secured convictions in 11 of those cases. Leslie serves on the Community Corrections Board and the Board of Directors for Voices of Victims. She oversees grand jury investigations and works with all 23 police agencies in the Judicial District. Relevant experience matters.
